2017-2018 // San Antonio, Texas
My gap year before graduate school was spent at Overland Partners where I engaged in a number of projects while participating in several intern-led projects and weekly duties. The majority of my project involvement was on a new lower school for the Episcopal School of Dallas. The project is a 60,000sf building on the school campus which will house preschool through 4th grade students. I was able to follow the project from schematic design all the way through construction documents, which exposed me to aspects of coordination with consultants and stakeholders. My primary duties included Revit modeling, and preparing client update presentations.

David F. Schultz Associates primarily works on the design and remodel of churches in the Chicago suburbs. The experience challenged me in schematic design and phased planning while familiarizing me with construction documentation, contracts, and schedules. I worked on documenting several churches as well as preparing early conceptual rendering. When not engaged with a design project, I worked to recompile and transfer the entire office detail library to AutoCAD from print or hand drawings. The experience helped me to develop familiarity with a variety of construction details, as well as development in representation skills.

2015-2016 // Duluth, Minnesota
Full time model making is a job some would kill for, while others would rather die than undertake. At CF Design I made models completely by hand from watercolor paper and cardboard. The projects, which were mostly high-end residential, each represented a new case study for me in how a building can be grounded to its site, whether on a hill in Duluth, MN or on the rocky north shore of Lake Superior. In addition to making models, I worked to reorganize the firms material library, tinkered on the office lighting, attended product rep meetings, and ran many errands which included trips to suppliers, the zoning office, and to take site measurements.
